Other Mattel Made Spanish Dolls Later Years The 3 pictures below are of the Spanish speaking 1974 Drowsy doll made by Mattel. The pictures below are to show you Mattel did make other Spanish speaking dolls, brunette and blondes. Also we know the record did not come from these dolls because the record in the above Spanish speaking Chatty Cathy dolls says 18 phrases and these two dolls below only say 8 and 10 phrases. TidBit Mattel also made a Spanish speaking Barie. |

Spanish Chatty Patty made by Mattel... Note: An interesting note is that the toys the doll comes with were made in Mexico, her costume made in Taiwan but her body was made in California which means her record has to of been made by Mattel in America. Which means Mattel had the ability to make a record in Spanish right here in America. |

Second Spanish Doll Picture Below |
(Below) Ad's from 1964 |
(above) Picture is of an ad from a magazine called "Toy-Hobby Wholesaler" Also notice the ad says INDUSTRY NEW at the top of the ad, meaning it is a sales ad for stores. It was given to me by the owner of the first doll above. It's a bad copy but if you look at the bottom of the ad (left hand side on the second from the bottom sentence) you can make out the words "Spanish Speaking" and just below that it says "Colored Chatty Cathy". I have had this ad for some time now and have been searching the internet for it. I found the 2 ads below in a 1962, 1963 Ebony magazine through "Google" in case you would like to look it up yourself. I also have the original ad. These two ad's below are separate and were found on different pages of the magazine. I am telling you that because I could not find the last ad in the picture above meaning the Hispanic girl with the brunette bob Spanish speaking doll. But I know that ad has to be out there somewhere, likely in Mexico. But since I do not speak Spanish I cannot go to Mexico through Google to find the ad. The two ad's below I found because they are of the American black Chatty Cathy and Chatty Baby doll. Also you will notice in the ad it says 1962. That date is just for the date Mattel registered and copy righted the dolls not for the ad or the date of the magazine because like I said, I found these same ad's in 1963 Ebony magazine. Plus these ad's are viewable to all through Google. So if you need to see the date for yourself on the magazines please look it up, because I could not get a snip-it of the dates of the magazine I found them in. Take a look at the girls below, the girl on the left look Hispanic with her long hair and looks like the same girl in the ad above holding the brunette Spanish speaking bob. Also because her record is dated 1963 she would of been sold in 1963 or 64 even though the Mattel copy right date on the ad is 1962 . |

Spanish Chatty Cathy Box |
Spanish Box (6 pictures above)...Notice this box says this Spanish speaking Chatty Cathy doll only says 11 phrases. Also... I think that number 683 is for the outfit she had on (not the pink peppermint you see in the picture but another one) I say that because on my Chatty Cathy Box Page the early boxes are numbered and those numbers match the numbers on the outfits on my Chatty Cathy clothes Page, but I am unsure about that because on the later boxes those numbers stand for the color of the hair and not the clothes. (I think).... |

Hello Everyone, This is an update on what these Chatty Cathy Spanish dolls say. I have 2 sets of sayings below and that is because they came from 2 different Spanish speaking people. Meaning one is a translation from a lady in Spain and the other a translation from a man in Venezuela. Oddly enough they both emailed me the translations with-in a month of each other. Also both are copy and paste from the emails that were sent. As you can see and read they are both almost the same but a little different. The reason they are a little different from one another is because it is my understanding that Spanish is not the same in every Spanish speaking country. They both wrote and told me that. They both said it is different from one country to the next. Kind of like the English language is different from one English speaking country to the next. Also I will be updating this page as more information comes in on these dolls. I have more pictures of other Mattel made Spanish speaking dolls from Spain that I will be uploading and explaining how Mattel did make this record and others foreign speaking dolls. I also would like to thank Lola and Ed for their help in translating the recordings below. Also for all their time, I know it had to take a lot of time to translate and email the translations. (Translation belwo from Spain) Thanks Lola! Vamos al campo: Let's go to the countryside Estoy cansada: I'm tired Tengo sueo: I'm sleepy A dnde vamos?: Where are we going? Dame un beso: Give me a kiss Hola, qu tal?: Hello, How are you? Hay fiesta?: Is there a party? Estoy lista: I'm ready Cuntame un cuento: Tell me a story Tengo much fro: I'm very cold Juega conmigo: Play with me Te quiero mucho: I love you much Demos un paseo: Let's take a walk Me quiero sentar: I want to sit Caminamos?: Will we take a walk? Cmbiame el vestido: Change my dress Qu linda eres!: How pretty you are! Tienes gases?. I can't translate this sentence because it has no sense in Spanish language or I don´t understand it (Translation below from Venezuela) Thanks Ed! Te quiero mucho. I love you very much. Vamos a campo. Lets go to the country. Dame un beso. Give me a kiss. Juega conmigo. Play with me. Cuntame un cuento. Tell me a story. Estoy cansada. Im tired. Hola. Qu tal? Hello. How are you? Tengo sueo. Im sleepy. Eso me gusta. I like that. Hay fiesta? is there a party? Estoy lista! I am ready (this is a mistake in spanish translation, this should mean "i am smart!") Tienes Dulce. Do you have candy? Tengo mucho frio. I am very cold A donde vamos? where are we going? (this sentence tells me that it is the correct chatty cathy record) Caminamos? Wanna go for a walk? Cambiame el vestido. Change my dress Que linda eres. You are so pretty Demos un paseo. Lets go for a walk (i know it sounds familiar but this is exactly what she says) |
Update... I now know that the NOVO_GAMA doll LIDIA and the American Spanish doll both say the same saying? I was told by a lady in Spain that both dolls say the same things and she said that the voice box and record were made in America by Mattel. Also said the Lindia doll sounds more like a South America Spanish speaking people...That they do not talk like that in Spain even though the doll was made in Spain it has a Spanish Box inside made in America by Mattel. I am now looking for another Spanish doll thinking that it too will have that same record. If it does that will prove once and for all Mattel did use the same record in different Spanish speaking dolls. Plus I don't think it could be changed because of the cost. When I found the another Spanish speaking doll in South America she was very expensive to buy and a rare doll so I don't think anyone would buy an expensive doll just to take the record out to make a fake Chatty Cathy doll because she would be worth more down there then here. I will update this page as I find out more information. I have people right now looking for these dolls. I know everyone has questions as I do, but information on these dolls is very hard to find. Click here for my Foreign Chatty Page... Note: page is a mess because it is not done yet and I will be adding information to each doll in the days to come. |
